Injury Prevention & Rehab with Hull Sports Injury Clinic

It's that time of year again, Christmas is over and we're all keen to burn off the festive indulgences and hit the training hard ahead of the looming race season. It's also the time of year when the injuries can catch us out and if we're not careful and we can quite easily ruin our season before we even start, aside from the obvious slips and falls which occour in the snow and ice it's also very easy to do some damage as the training volume and intensity increases if things aren't kept in check.

Injury Prevention

There's always the sensible things we can do to prevent injury such as not running (or cycling) on ice and ensuring we wear the correct footwear for the conditions, racing flats aren't the best choice for cross country and spikes won't help on the road, so before you run out of the door take a few minutes to check your kit and your route, and always weight the risk against the benefits of the session! the fitness benefits of a 5k cross country in hazardous conditions may not really be worth the potential 3 months out of running with a broken ankle!

In addition to a sensible approach to training we would always strongly recommend a regular sports massage from a trained and experience professional, even if you don't feel you have an injury it will make life much easier for you if you get the maintenance work done on a regular basis, a small investment once a month is worthwhile! The therapist can detect any unknown injuries that have been slowing you down or could potentially develop into something worse, they will also loosen off the muscles, increase training efficiency and reduce the chance of injury through training and racing.

Our partners at The Hull Sports Injury Clinic have a team of qualified and experienced therapists who will be happy to work with you for all of your sports massage and injury prevention needs.

Rehabilitation

If you already have an injury or niggle now is the time to get things seen to before the race season so you can train and race effectively without any concerns, don't let a niggle develop in to something worse! Again the team at the Hull Sports Injury Clinic are there to help whatever the injury.

The Hull Sports Injury Clinic also have Marie Walker on the team, the areas leading sports podiatrist. Marie is a leading specialist in lower leg injury rehabilitation, with a great deal of experience in dealing with athletes and their specific injuries and requirements.

Marie also provides an expert gait analysis service, an essential tool to ensure you are running in the correct footwear and to detect and correct any running issues!
